Orthodontic Braces - Hanoi treatment

Long-term orthodontic care for patients living in Hanoi

Nha Khoa Mễ Trì provides orthodontic treatment in Hanoi for adults, teenagers, and children. Options include conventional metal braces, self-ligating metal braces, ceramic braces, Korean clear aligners, and Invisalign.

Orthodontic treatment usually takes about 12-24 months and requires regular follow-up, commonly every 4-6 weeks. It is therefore most suitable for residents, expatriate families, international students, and professionals who can return reliably throughout treatment. Short-stay visitors may still arrange a consultation, second opinion, transfer assessment, or help with a damaged appliance.

Each plan is based on the position of the teeth, the bite, jaw development, gum and bone health, treatment complexity, and the patient's priorities. A case can only be classified as simple, complex, or highly complex after an examination and orthodontic assessment.

Orthodontic options, prices, treatment planning, and follow-up

What orthodontic treatment can address

Orthodontic treatment uses fixed braces, clear aligners, wires, attachments, elastics, and other appliances to move teeth gradually and improve their relationship within the bite. Treatment goals may include:

  • Aligning crowded, overlapping, or rotated teeth
  • Closing spaces between teeth
  • Correcting protruding teeth
  • Improving a dental overbite, underbite, open bite, or crossbite
  • Aligning displaced teeth or guiding an impacted tooth
  • Improving access for oral hygiene
  • Supporting chewing function
  • Preparing tooth positions before implants, crowns, or other restorative care

The expected result depends on the cause of the problem, age, jaw growth, bone and gum health, biological response, and cooperation during treatment. Cases caused mainly by jaw position or skeletal imbalance may not be fully corrected by braces alone.

These prices cover the active orthodontic phase described in the confirmed plan, from the beginning of treatment until the braces are removed. Orthodontic imaging, retainers, fixed retainers, additional appliances, surgery, and separately required dental treatment are charged separately when needed.

Treatment complexity is not determined only by the number of crooked teeth. The bite, jaw relationship, impacted teeth, available space, periodontal health, and difficulty of the planned tooth movements must also be assessed.

Clear-aligner prices in Hanoi

Korean clear aligners refer to the clear-aligner system provided by the clinic and are not presented as a specific commercial brand. Invisalign is a separately branded clear-aligner system.

A confirmed clear-aligner plan may include a digital scan, treatment planning, treatment simulation, the aligners specified in the plan, attachments, interproximal reduction when indicated, and routine progress reviews. The number of aligners, refinement policy, and replacement of lost or damaged aligners should be documented in the individual plan. Additional aligners are not automatically included unless confirmed in writing.

USD amounts are approximate estimates using 1 USD = 26,280 VND on 20 July 2026 and are rounded to the nearest 5 USD. The final treatment fee is confirmed and paid in VND.

What the main orthodontic package includes

The main package covers active orthodontic treatment from the start of treatment until braces are removed or the planned clear-aligner phase is completed. Depending on the confirmed method, it may include:

  • Initial examination and consultation
  • Orthodontic photographs
  • Impressions or a digital scan
  • Analysis of the teeth and bite
  • Treatment planning
  • Brackets and archwires, or the planned clear aligners
  • Clear-aligner attachments
  • Interproximal reduction when clinically indicated
  • Routine adjustment and monitoring visits
  • Bite monitoring throughout active treatment
  • Removal of braces at the end of treatment
  • Final cleaning and polishing after bracket removal
  • Follow-up during the active treatment period

Removable retainers and fixed lingual retainers are not included in the main package.

Inclined plane appliance3,000,000 VND per arch, about 115 USD
Removable orthodontic appliance2,000,000-5,000,000 VND per arch, about 75-190 USD
Pre-orthodontic treatment with braces8,000,000-12,000,000 VND per arch, about 305-455 USD

These appliances are only used when clinically indicated. Not every patient needs mini screws, expansion, extraoral appliances, or additional anchorage.

Retainers after braces or aligners

Retainer typePrice
Removable retainer2,000,000 VND per arch, about 75 USD
Fixed lingual retainer1,500,000 VND per arch, about 55 USD

Retention begins after braces are removed or the active clear-aligner phase is completed. It is a necessary part of orthodontic care because teeth remain capable of moving after active alignment. Some patients may need both removable and fixed retention. Lost, damaged, or poorly fitting retainers may need replacement.

Dental treatment that may be needed separately

Decay, gum inflammation, infection, or damaged teeth may need treatment before or during orthodontics. Separate care may include professional cleaning, fillings, root canal treatment, periodontal care, orthodontic extractions, wisdom tooth removal, surgical exposure of an impacted tooth, or treatment of infected teeth.

These procedures and any related surgery are charged separately unless specifically included in the confirmed plan.

Payment by treatment stage

The total orthodontic fee is confirmed before treatment begins. Payment is divided according to the stages of the treatment plan rather than presented as monthly financing.

The written plan should explain:

  • The total expected package fee
  • Services included in the main package
  • Charges excluded from the package
  • The amount due at each stage
  • The timing of each payment
  • How additional charges will be explained

The payment schedule is confirmed before braces are fitted or clear aligners are delivered. Imaging, additional appliances, retainers, fixed retainers, bracket rebonding, and separately required dental treatment are not automatically included.

No bracket type is best for every patient. The decision should balance treatment complexity, appearance, cost, lifestyle, and oral hygiene. Self-ligating braces should not be assumed to shorten treatment, reduce pain, require fewer visits, or produce better results in every case.

Fixed braces or clear aligners?

Starting price35,000,000 VND65,000,000 VND

Clear aligners are not automatically better than fixed braces. Frequently forgetting to wear them, changing them too early, or losing them can delay progress and cause later aligners to stop fitting.

Orthodontics for children, teenagers, and adults

For children and teenagers, assessment can monitor tooth eruption, space for permanent teeth, jaw development, crossbite, developing overbite or underbite, thumb sucking, tongue thrusting, delayed teeth, and impacted teeth. Early assessment does not mean every child needs immediate treatment. Some children only need monitoring until the appropriate stage of development.

Adults can receive orthodontic treatment when the teeth, gums, and supporting bone are sufficiently stable. Planning may be more complex when there are missing teeth, crowns, implants, previous root canal treatment, or periodontal disease. Adult treatment may also need coordination with restorative care and careful planning around work or travel.

Is tooth extraction necessary?

Not every patient needs teeth removed. The decision depends on crowding, tooth inclination, lip position, facial profile, available bone, bite relationships, and treatment goals.

Possible approaches include using available space, expansion when appropriate, controlled interproximal reduction, moving back teeth distally, using mini screws for anchorage, or extraction when additional space is genuinely required. An extraction decision should not be made from photographs alone. It requires an examination and analysis of complete orthodontic records.

Impacted or displaced teeth

An impacted or displaced tooth may require imaging, space creation, fixed braces, controlled traction, and careful monitoring. Some cases also need surgical exposure, an attachment, mini screws, or a longer treatment period.

The package price for impacted or displaced tooth alignment does not automatically include surgical exposure, CBCT, mini screws, or related surgery. Separate costs are confirmed when required.

Continuing treatment after moving to Hanoi

Patients who started braces or clear-aligner treatment elsewhere can request a transfer assessment. Continuation is not automatic because bracket systems, previous records, treatment objectives, and the current stage may differ.

The assessment may include review of existing records, examination of brackets or aligners, new photographs or scans, imaging when required, confirmation of whether the current appliance can be continued, a revised treatment plan, and separate transfer pricing. Fees paid to another provider cannot automatically be transferred.

Orthodontic care during a short stay

Full orthodontic treatment is generally unsuitable for a short Hanoi visit because it commonly takes 12-24 months and requires reviews about every 4-6 weeks.

Short-stay visitors may still request an initial consultation, second opinion, transfer assessment, loose-bracket review, bracket rebonding, help with an irritating wire, assessment of a damaged aligner, or imaging when indicated. Emergency assistance does not mean the clinic can automatically continue the full plan created by another provider.

Orthodontic treatment process

  1. Examination of the teeth, gums, and bite
  2. Orthodontic photographs
  3. Impressions or a digital scan
  4. Imaging when indicated
  5. Analysis of the teeth, jaws, and facial relationships
  6. Definition of treatment objectives
  7. Explanation of the method, total fee, exclusions, and payment stages
  8. Treatment of decay, gum disease, or infection when necessary
  9. Placement of braces or delivery of clear aligners
  10. Regular adjustment and progress visits
  11. Monitoring of tooth movement and the bite
  12. Finishing and detailed alignment
  13. Removal of braces or completion of the planned aligner phase
  14. Cleaning and polishing
  15. Retainer planning and delivery

Duration and review schedule

Treatment usually takes about 12-24 months, but some cases are shorter or longer. Duration may be affected by crowding, bite complexity, impacted teeth, extraction, periodontal condition, biological response, attendance, aligner wear, elastic use, bracket breakage, and lost aligners.

Reviews are commonly scheduled every 4-6 weeks, although the interval may vary by method and treatment stage. Long periods outside Hanoi or repeated missed appointments should be discussed before treatment begins because they may delay progress.

Discomfort, risks, and limitations

Teeth may feel tender or tight for several days after braces are fitted, wires are adjusted, or a new aligner is started. Lip or cheek irritation can also occur. Softer foods and orthodontic wax may help when appropriate, but severe or persistent pain should be assessed.

Possible risks include decay, white-spot demineralization around brackets, gum inflammation, gum recession in some cases, root resorption in some cases, ulcers, loose brackets, poorly fitting aligners, delayed progress after missed visits, and relapse when retainers are not used. The exact duration and final result cannot be guaranteed before examination or before the patient's response is observed during treatment.

Cleaning and daily care

To reduce the risk of decay and gum inflammation:

  • Brush after meals when possible
  • Clean carefully around brackets and wires
  • Use an interdental brush, floss, or another suitable orthodontic cleaning aid
  • Clean clear aligners every day
  • Do not wash aligners with very hot water
  • Limit frequent sugary snacks and drinks
  • Attend professional cleaning when recommended
  • Request an examination if the gums become swollen or bleed

With fixed braces, avoid biting directly into very hard food, limit sticky sweets and chewy food, cut food into smaller pieces, and do not bite ice or use the teeth to open packaging. A loose bracket may interrupt the planned force, and rebonding costs 300,000 VND per tooth.

Clear aligners should be worn for the instructed daily duration, removed for meals as directed, stored in their case, and reinserted after cleaning the teeth. Do not move to the next aligner early. Report a lost, damaged, or poorly fitting aligner promptly.

When to contact the clinic early

Contact the clinic before the next planned review if there is:

  • A loose or detached bracket
  • A wire irritating the cheek or lip
  • Severe or persistent pain
  • Significant gum swelling
  • Unusual tooth mobility
  • A cracked, lost, or poorly fitting aligner
  • Pain, swelling, or looseness around a mini screw
  • Uncertainty about elastics
  • A broken or poorly fitting retainer

Results, relapse, and retention

The aim of orthodontics is to improve tooth position and the bite within each patient's biological limits. Teeth can move after active treatment, so retainers should be used according to the recommended schedule.

Treatment should not be presented as guaranteeing permanent alignment, a specific facial change, completion within a fixed number of months, or treatment without extraction before full record analysis. Clear aligners and self-ligating braces should not be described as universally faster.

Real case examples should state the initial condition, age group, treatment method, extraction decision, additional appliances, treatment duration, and result achieved, together with a reminder that individual results vary.

Orthodontic appointments in Mễ Trì, Hanoi

Nha Khoa Mễ Trì is located at số 123, ngõ 32 Đỗ Đức Dục, Mễ Trì, Từ Liêm, Hà Nội. The clinic provides orthodontic care for patients living in Mễ Trì, Mỹ Đình, Nam Từ Liêm, and other areas of Hanoi.

The clinic is open daily from 8:00 to 19:30. Because orthodontic treatment requires repeated visits, patients should consider whether the location and appointment schedule are practical for regular attendance over 12-24 months. Review visits are generally arranged every 4-6 weeks according to the treatment method and current stage.

Consultation, treatment planning, price explanation, payment stages, appliance instructions, oral hygiene guidance, retainer instructions, and follow-up communication are available directly in English. Written information can help patients understand the difference between fixed braces and clear aligners, what is included, which charges are separate, and what to do if a bracket, aligner, or appliance is damaged.

Patients transferring treatment should bring any available records, previous scans or X-rays, treatment plans, aligner information, and details of the appliance system. Patients who expect long travel periods should discuss this before treatment starts so review timing and possible limitations can be considered.
