Cosmetic Dental Filling - Hanoi treatment

Front Tooth Composite Restoration in Hanoi

A cosmetic dental filling, also commonly described as composite bonding, uses tooth-colored composite resin to restore selected minor or moderate defects in front teeth. It may be suitable for a small chip, a lost incisal edge, a minor gap, front-tooth decay, or an old discolored filling when enough healthy tooth structure remains.

At Nha Khoa Mễ Trì in Hanoi, Korean composite costs VND 500,000 per tooth and US composite costs VND 700,000 per tooth, approximately USD 19-27 per tooth. Treatment usually takes about 30-60 minutes per tooth. The initial consultation and examination are free, and examination and treatment can normally be completed during the same appointment when direct composite restoration is appropriate.

The dentist assesses the remaining tooth structure, bite, tooth shade, restoration size, and aesthetic goals before confirming suitability, material, warranty, and final cost. Not every chipped, spaced, fractured, or discolored tooth can be treated predictably with direct composite, so an in-person assessment is required.

Cosmetic Filling Costs, Suitability, Procedure, and Aftercare

What Is a Cosmetic Dental Filling?

A cosmetic dental filling uses tooth-colored composite resin bonded directly to a front tooth. The dentist can use the material to replace missing tooth structure, repair a minor chip or lost incisal edge, improve a selected minor shape defect, close a small gap in a suitable case, or replace an old front-tooth filling that has discolored, chipped, loosened, or detached.

Front-tooth restoration requires attention to more than color. The dentist considers shade, overall tooth shape, incisal edge anatomy, surface texture, symmetry, contact with neighboring teeth, and the visible transition between the composite and natural tooth structure. The restoration is shaped, checked against the bite, finished, and polished so that it supports function as well as appearance.

When May a Cosmetic Filling Be Suitable?

Direct composite restoration may be considered for:

  • A minor chip in a front tooth
  • Small loss of an incisal edge
  • A small gap between front teeth in a suitable case
  • Minor front-tooth shape correction
  • Decay affecting a front tooth
  • Small or moderate loss of front-tooth structure
  • An old front-tooth filling that has become discolored
  • An old filling that has chipped, loosened, or detached
  • Repair of the edge or contour of an existing filling

Final suitability depends on the amount of healthy tooth structure remaining, the depth and extent of damage, tooth position, bite forces, oral habits, shade requirements, aesthetic goals, and the dentist's assessment.

When May a Cosmetic Filling Not Be the Best Option?

A cosmetic filling may not provide enough protection or predictability when there is major loss of tooth structure, a large fracture, a deep or extensive crack, a severely weakened tooth, or damage involving the dental pulp. Heavy bite forces, bruxism, clenching, or strong contact on the incisal edge may also increase the risk of failure.

A large gap, a major requested change in shape or color, or a tooth that needs greater structural protection may require another approach. Depending on the examination, the dentist may discuss orthodontics, a veneer, crown, inlay, onlay, or another restoration when it offers better function, stability, protection, or aesthetic predictability. This does not mean that veneers or crowns are automatically required whenever a direct filling is unsuitable.

Cosmetic Dental Filling Prices in Hanoi

TreatmentPriceWarranty
Cosmetic front tooth filling - Korean compositeVND 500,000 per tooth6 months
Cosmetic front tooth filling - US compositeVND 700,000 per tooth1 year
TreatmentApproximate USD
Korean compositeAbout USD 19 per tooth
US compositeAbout USD 27 per tooth

These prices apply specifically to cosmetic front-tooth fillings. Posterior, occlusal, proximal, and cervical restorations belong to the clinic's general dental filling service.

Material selection depends on the tooth condition, restoration size, shade requirements, bite, remaining tooth structure, and dentist assessment. The higher-priced option is not automatically the right choice for every patient. The final cost is confirmed before treatment. Patients can also review the clinic's broader dental price list.

USD amounts are approximate references based on the exchange rate used on July 20, 2026. Final treatment prices are confirmed and paid in VND.

Korean Composite and US Composite: What Is the Difference?

Both options are tooth-colored composite materials used for direct front-tooth restoration. Korean composite costs VND 500,000 per tooth and carries a 6-month warranty. US composite costs VND 700,000 per tooth and carries a 1-year warranty.

The dentist recommends a material after assessing the shade, restoration size, bite, remaining tooth structure, clinical situation, aesthetic requirements, and finishing needs. The price difference should not be interpreted as proof that one option is automatically suitable or best for every tooth.

What Does the Dentist Consider Before Recommending a Filling?

The treatment plan is based on:

  • Tooth position and the number of surfaces involved
  • Size of the missing tooth structure
  • Location and depth of decay
  • Amount of enamel and dentin remaining
  • Natural tooth shade and existing discoloration
  • Shape and incisal edge that must be reconstructed
  • Contact with neighboring teeth
  • Bite and force on the restored edge
  • Habits such as biting hard objects
  • Bruxism or clenching
  • Condition of an old filling
  • The patient's aesthetic goals

The final material, treatment plan, and price are confirmed after examination.

What Is Included in the Cosmetic Filling Price?

The cosmetic filling price covers the planned direct restoration of the selected front tooth, including:

  • Examination of the selected tooth and damaged area
  • Assessment of the remaining tooth structure and bite
  • Cleaning and removal of affected tissue when required
  • Preparation and moisture control
  • Shade selection when relevant
  • Adhesive bonding and composite placement
  • Tooth contouring and reconstruction of the missing structure or incisal edge
  • Checking contact with neighboring teeth when required
  • Bite adjustment
  • Finishing and polishing
  • Immediate aftercare instructions
  • Adjustment of the original restoration if the bite feels high or an edge feels rough

Dental X-rays, root canal treatment, and unrelated dental treatment are not included in the cosmetic filling price.

Possible Additional Costs

Additional charges may apply when the dentist determines that another diagnostic or treatment step is needed. Examples include:

  • A dental X-ray when clinically required
  • Root canal treatment when the dental pulp is affected
  • A temporary filling when definitive restoration cannot be completed immediately
  • Assessment or treatment of a cracked tooth
  • A veneer, crown, inlay, onlay, or another restoration when direct composite is unsuitable
  • Treatment of decay or disease affecting another part of the tooth
  • Treatment of surrounding gum disease
  • Replacement of another restoration outside the original plan

When damage extends close to or into the dental pulp, a direct filling alone may not be sufficient. The dentist may need to perform further assessment and recommend root canal treatment or another restorative option.

Is an X-ray Required Before a Cosmetic Filling?

Not every cosmetic filling requires an X-ray. Imaging may be recommended when decay appears deep, pain or prolonged sensitivity is present, hidden decay is suspected, the extent of damage is unclear, or possible pulp involvement needs assessment.

A minor surface chip does not automatically require imaging. Dental X-rays are charged separately when clinically required.

Is Local Anesthesia Needed for a Cosmetic Filling?

Local anesthesia may be used when the tooth is sensitive, the damage is deep, or cleaning the affected tissue may cause discomfort.

Minor surface restorations may not always require anesthesia. The decision depends on cavity depth, sensitivity, tooth condition, and patient comfort. The level of discomfort varies by case, so the treatment should not be described as completely painless.

Cosmetic Dental Filling Procedure

  1. Discuss the patient's concern and symptoms.
  2. Examine the tooth requiring restoration.
  3. Assess the remaining tooth structure.
  4. Check the bite and tooth contacts.
  5. Recommend an X-ray when required.
  6. Confirm whether direct composite restoration is suitable.
  7. Explain the material options and cost.
  8. Select the composite shade.
  9. Clean and prepare the treatment area.
  10. Control moisture.
  11. Perform the adhesive bonding procedure.
  12. Place the composite material.
  13. Build the restoration in layers when appropriate.
  14. Reconstruct the tooth shape and incisal edge.
  15. Check contact with neighboring teeth.
  16. Check and adjust the bite.
  17. Finish and polish the restoration.
  18. Explain aftercare.
  19. Arrange a follow-up assessment when required.

The amount of preparation depends on the tooth condition. It cannot be assumed that every case requires no removal of tooth structure.

How Long Does a Cosmetic Dental Filling Take?

Treatment usually takes approximately 30-60 minutes per tooth. The duration depends on restoration size, tooth position, number of surfaces involved, amount of damaged tissue, removal of an old filling, shade-matching difficulty, shape reconstruction, bite adjustment, and the number of teeth treated. This is an estimate rather than a fixed guarantee.

Can the Examination and Filling Be Completed on the Same Day?

Examination and treatment can normally be completed during the same appointment when direct composite restoration is suitable. Another appointment may be needed when further diagnosis is required, pulp involvement is suspected, or the treatment plan changes. Same-day treatment cannot be guaranteed for every patient.

Can Several Teeth Be Treated During One Appointment?

Several teeth may be restored during one appointment when clinically appropriate. The suitable number depends on restoration complexity, total treatment time, bite requirements, and patient comfort. The dentist confirms the plan after examination rather than using a fixed maximum number of teeth.

Will the Filling Match the Natural Tooth Color?

Composite shades can be selected to closely harmonize with natural teeth. Tooth shape, surface texture, finishing, and polish also influence the final appearance.

A completely invisible result cannot be guaranteed. Shade assessment may be affected by lighting, temporary tooth dehydration, existing discoloration, and restoration size. A larger restoration may remain more noticeable, and the transition between composite and natural tooth structure may become more visible over time. Composite can also stain, wear, or lose surface polish. When a major color change is requested, whitening, a veneer, a crown, or another treatment may be more appropriate after assessment.

How Long Does a Cosmetic Filling Last?

The lifespan of a cosmetic filling varies according to its position and size, bite forces, eating habits, bruxism, oral hygiene, and the condition of the remaining tooth structure. The restoration should be checked periodically and may require repair or replacement over time.

Durability is influenced by restoration size, remaining tooth structure, incisal contact, clenching or grinding, biting hard objects, diet, staining habits, oral hygiene, and regular dental examinations. No fixed clinical lifespan applies to every patient. The 6-month or 1-year warranty is separate from the restoration's expected lifespan.

Can a Tooth Feel Sensitive After a Cosmetic Filling?

Mild temporary sensitivity may occur. It can relate to cavity depth, inflammation before treatment, the tooth's response after restoration, or a high bite contact.

Contact the clinic if pain increases, persists, occurs when biting, or interrupts sleep. The dentist may need to assess the bite, dental pulp, or restoration.

How to Care for a Cosmetic Filling

  • Follow the dentist's instructions before eating if local anesthesia was used.
  • Avoid biting very hard objects with the restored front tooth.
  • Do not use teeth to open packaging.
  • Brush and floss normally, cleaning carefully around the restored area.
  • Limit habits that may stain composite.
  • Attend dental examinations as recommended.
  • Contact the clinic if the restoration feels high, rough, loose, chipped, or uncomfortable.
  • Request an assessment if sensitivity or pain increases.

Bite and Surface Adjustment After a Filling

The dentist checks the bite and comfort before the patient leaves. A high bite may become more noticeable after the appointment, while a rough edge or uncomfortable contact may require adjustment.

Adjustment of the original restoration is available when needed. Patients should contact the clinic rather than wait if biting feels abnormal. New decay, a new fracture, or treatment of another area is a separate clinical issue.

Cosmetic Filling Warranty

MaterialWarranty
Korean composite6 months
US composite1 year

The warranty applies specifically to the original cosmetic front-tooth restoration. It may support repair or replacement when the restoration chips, loosens, or comes away during normal use. The dentist examines the tooth and restoration before confirming warranty treatment, and eligibility is assessed according to the actual clinical condition.

The warranty does not mean that the restoration cannot stain, wear, chip, loosen, or need maintenance. The warranty period is not the expected clinical lifespan of the filling.
