The dentist will assess the damage, pulp condition, bite, material options, and cost before treatment.

Restore a decayed or damaged tooth conservatively
Dental fillings restore tooth structure lost because of decay, chipping, wear, or a small fracture. The damaged area is cleaned and prepared before the filling material is placed, shaped, polished, and adjusted to your bite.
At Nha Khoa Mễ Trì, dental fillings are available for adults and children, including chewing-surface fillings, side-surface fillings, cervical or gumline fillings, replacement of old fillings, and aesthetic front-tooth fillings. Prices range from 200,000 to 700,000 VND per tooth, and many straightforward cases take approximately 20-45 minutes per tooth.
A filling is not suitable for every damaged tooth. Deep decay, severe pain, infection, pulp exposure, a large fracture, or limited remaining tooth structure may require pulp capping, root canal treatment, a crown, or another restoration. The initial consultation and examination are free, and the dentist confirms the treatment plan and total cost after assessing the tooth.
Dental filling options, prices, and treatment
Dental filling prices in Hanoi
Prices are calculated per tooth. Final cost depends on the location and size of the damage, the selected material, the condition of the pulp, and any additional treatment required.
Chewing-surface fillings
Side-surface and cervical fillings
Aesthetic front-tooth filling
An aesthetic front-tooth filling with Composite from the United States costs 700,000 VND per tooth, approximately 27 USD, with a 1-year warranty. It may be considered for a small chip, a minor fracture, edge wear, a small shape defect, a limited gap, or an old visible filling that has changed color.
Pulp protection for deep cavities
USD amounts are approximate conversions based on the rate used on 20 July 2026. Final prices are confirmed and paid in VND. Listed prices exclude VAT, and a VAT invoice is available when requested.
Choosing a filling material
Material selection should not be based on price alone. The dentist also considers:
- The tooth and surface being restored
- Cavity size and depth
- Remaining healthy tooth structure
- Moisture control during treatment
- Chewing forces and bite relationship
- Cosmetic requirements
- The child's ability to cooperate when treating children
Fuji filling material from Japan, Composite from Japan, and Composite from the United States may each be appropriate in selected cases. A longer warranty does not mean the filling will remain unchanged for exactly that period, and the highest-priced option is not automatically the best material for every tooth.
Where fillings may be used
Chewing-surface fillings restore grooves or small to moderate defects on molars. If the cavity is very large, the remaining walls are thin, or the pulp has been affected, another restoration may be more suitable.
Side-surface fillings restore damage between teeth or on the side of a tooth. Rebuilding the contact area carefully helps reduce food trapping. Some side-surface cavities require a dental X-ray because the full extent cannot be assessed visually.
Cervical or gumline fillings restore tooth structure lost near the gumline because of decay, wear, or another defect. If calculus, bleeding, or gum inflammation affects the treatment area, scaling or gum care may be recommended first.
Aesthetic front-tooth fillings are intended for small or moderate visible defects. A large fracture, severe discoloration, significant misalignment, or limited remaining tooth structure may require another treatment.
Children's fillings use the same material prices and warranty periods as adult fillings. The dentist considers whether the tooth is primary or permanent, cavity depth, expected replacement time, moisture control, remaining tooth structure, and the child's cooperation.
Indirect and direct pulp capping
Indirect pulp capping may be considered when deep decay is close to the pulp but the pulp has not been directly exposed. Direct pulp capping may be considered in selected cases where the pulp has been exposed and the clinical conditions are suitable.
Pulp capping is charged separately from the filling and has no separate warranty. It is not suitable for every deep cavity. If the pulp is inflamed or infected, root canal treatment may be required instead.
What the basic filling price includes
The filling price includes the steps needed to restore the tooth according to the confirmed plan:
- Initial consultation and examination
- Assessment of the cavity, chipped area, or old filling
- Removal of decayed tooth tissue
- Cleaning and preparation of the cavity
- Filling material and bonding procedure
- Shaping, polishing, bite checking, and bite adjustment
- Final check and aftercare instructions
Dental X-rays, local anesthesia, pulp capping, scaling, gum treatment, root canal treatment, and other additional services are charged separately when clinically indicated. The dentist explains the reason and cost before treatment.
Treatment time and procedure
Many straightforward dental fillings can be completed in one appointment and usually take approximately 20-45 minutes per tooth. Treatment time varies with tooth location, cavity size, damage depth, pulp condition, number of teeth, moisture control, anesthesia, pulp capping, and bite adjustment.
A typical procedure includes:
- Examine the tooth and discuss symptoms
- Assess the location and size of the damage
- Take an X-ray when indicated
- Evaluate the pulp
- Explain material options and prices
- Use local anesthesia if required
- Remove decay or an old filling
- Clean and prepare the area
- Perform pulp capping if indicated
- Place and shape the filling
- Polish the restoration
- Check contact points and adjust the bite
- Provide aftercare instructions
Deep cavities, teeth close to the pulp, or cases requiring monitoring may need more time or another appointment. A fixed number of visits cannot be confirmed before examination.
Comfort, sensitivity, and aftercare
The level of discomfort depends on the depth of the damage and the condition of the pulp. A small cavity may cause only vibration, pressure, or mild discomfort during cleaning. For deeper or sensitive teeth, the dentist may recommend local anesthesia.
After treatment:
- Follow the dentist's instructions about eating
- Avoid heavy chewing while the tooth remains sensitive
- Do not bite ice, bones, or very hard objects
- Do not use teeth to open packaging
- Brush at least twice daily and clean between the teeth
- Limit frequent sugary foods and drinks
- Attend follow-up when recommended
Contact the clinic if pain increases, the tooth develops spontaneous or night pain, sensitivity persists, the bite feels high, swelling appears, food repeatedly traps near the filling, or the filling chips, moves, or comes loose.
When a filling may not be sufficient
A routine filling may not provide enough strength or protection when there is pulp involvement, infection, a large fracture, thin remaining walls, extensive loss of tooth structure, a cracked tooth, damage extending deeply below the gumline, or excessive biting force on the proposed restoration.
Depending on the examination, alternatives may include root canal treatment, an inlay or onlay, a crown, gum treatment, orthodontics for selected front-tooth cases, or extraction when the tooth cannot be preserved.
Replacing an old filling
Not every old filling needs replacement. The dentist checks the surface, margins, contact points, bite, and surrounding tooth structure. Replacement may be recommended when a filling is loose, cracked, worn, discolored, trapping food, causing bite discomfort, or showing recurrent decay around its margins.
Warranty and durability
Warranty ranges from 6 months to 5 years depending on the material and restoration location. Children's fillings use the same warranty periods and conditions. Indirect and direct pulp capping do not have a separate warranty.
Filling durability depends on material, restoration size and location, remaining tooth structure, chewing forces, clenching or grinding, oral hygiene, recurrent decay, trauma, and daily habits. Warranty may apply when a filling is lost or fractured and the dentist determines that replacement is clinically appropriate under the clinic's policy. New decay, trauma, accidental damage, unauthorized repair elsewhere, or damage from biting very hard objects may not be covered.
Restorative care led by an experienced dentist
Dr. Phạm Quốc Chí is a restorative dentistry specialist with 12 years of experience. His treatment focus includes conservative restoration, aesthetic composite work, crowns and bridges, and bite adjustment. Each plan is based on direct examination rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Plan your dental filling visit in Hanoi
Nha Khoa Mễ Trì provides dental fillings for adults and children at số 123, ngõ 32 Đỗ Đức Dục, Mễ Trì, Từ Liêm, Hà Nội. The clinic is positioned for patients living, working, studying, or staying in Mễ Trì, Mỹ Đình, Nam Từ Liêm, and other parts of Hanoi.
The initial consultation and examination are free. During the visit, the dentist assesses the cavity or damaged area, remaining tooth structure, pulp condition, bite, and any old restoration before recommending a material and confirming the final cost. Treatment explanations, price information, aftercare instructions, and follow-up communication are available in English.
For appointment planning:
- Share the affected tooth, symptoms, and how long the problem has been present
- Mention any spontaneous pain, night pain, swelling, or pain when biting
- Tell the clinic if a filling has fallen out or if the tooth has recently fractured
- Visitors should share their departure date so follow-up needs can be considered
- Allow additional time when an X-ray, anesthesia, pulp capping, or treatment of more than one tooth may be needed
- Full payment is made according to the confirmed treatment plan
- Prices exclude VAT; a VAT invoice is available when requested
Many straightforward fillings take approximately 20-45 minutes per tooth and may be completed in one appointment. Side-surface cavities, deep decay, pulp symptoms, large fractures, or limited remaining tooth structure may require further assessment or another treatment. A routine filling may not need a separate review when the bite feels normal and the tooth is comfortable, but follow-up may be recommended for deep cavities, pulp-capping cases, persistent sensitivity, or bite discomfort.
Contact the clinic before leaving Hanoi if the filling feels high, there is pain when biting, sensitivity is increasing, spontaneous or night pain develops, the gum becomes swollen, the filling chips or becomes loose, food repeatedly traps around the restoration, or a treated child continues to report pain.

"The clinic is always busy, I booked an appointment and got treated right away. I had 3 wisdom teeth extracted and 5 teeth filled at the dental clinic. The extraction process was painless, the doctor was gentle. After the anesthesia wore off, there was a bit of discomfort but no need to take painkillers. For anyone who wants a painless and gentle tooth extraction like mine, I recommend using the additional pain relief and anti-swelling injection service.👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻"
