What is Wisdom Tooth Extraction?

Wisdom tooth extraction is a procedure to remove the 8th tooth (wisdom tooth) when it is impacted, misaligned, or causing pain and infection. This process is usually performed under local anesthesia to reduce pain and ensure patient safety.

When Should Wisdom Teeth Be Extracted?

  • Impacted or misaligned wisdom teeth causing pain or gum swelling
  • Wisdom teeth causing infection, cavities, or affecting adjacent teeth
  • Risk of cyst or tumor formation around the wisdom tooth
  • Difficulty cleaning, leading to food and bacteria accumulation around the wisdom tooth

Benefits of Wisdom Tooth Extraction

  • Reduces pain and discomfort caused by wisdom teeth
  • Prevents infections, cavities, and other complications
  • Protects adjacent teeth from shifting or damage
  • Makes oral hygiene easier after removing the wisdom teeth

Options for Wisdom Tooth Extraction

  • Extraction of straight, misaligned, or impacted wisdom teeth
  • Possible to extract one or multiple wisdom teeth depending on the condition
  • Use of local anesthesia methods tailored to each case

Wisdom Tooth Extraction Procedure

  1. The dentist performs a general examination and orders X-rays to assess the position and shape of the wisdom tooth.
  2. Local anesthesia is administered to reduce pain during extraction.
  3. The wisdom tooth is extracted using specialized instruments; gum incision or tooth sectioning may be necessary if impacted.
  4. Sutures are placed if needed to support healing.
  5. The patient is given instructions for care and follow-up after extraction.

Aftercare Following Wisdom Tooth Extraction

  • Keep the mouth clean and avoid disturbing the extraction site
  • Do not rinse vigorously or spit repeatedly within the first 24 hours
  • Eat soft, cool foods for the first few days
  • Take medications as prescribed by the doctor if any
  • Monitor for prolonged swelling, pain, or unusual bleeding and contact the doctor if necessary

Important Notes

  • Not all cases require wisdom tooth extraction; the dentist will decide based on the specific condition
  • Some cases may require additional tests or supportive treatment before extraction
  • Effectiveness and recovery time may vary individually
  • A direct consultation is recommended for advice and to develop an appropriate treatment plan

"I have had dental treatment here about 4-5 times. Once for scaling and wisdom tooth extraction on the upper left side (after extraction, I could eat broken rice that evening without pain). Once for gum inflammation where they drained the pus and applied medicine + gave me medication -> healed. Once for extracting 2 wisdom teeth on the right side, I was very afraid of pain at first, but after extraction, when the anesthesia wore off, it only hurt a little, took a pain-relief effervescent tablet and slept until morning. Overall, this place is okay, prices are reasonable, dentists are gentle and enthusiastic. I give 100 points."
